Mid century /platter bowl from the 'labyrint' series designed by Mari Simmulson (1911-2000) for Upsala-Ekeby, Sweden.. The 'Labyrint' series was produced 1965-67.

Upsala-Ekeby was founded at the turn of the 20th Century in Upsala. The company produced artistic ceramics from 1920 until 1973 when it was sold and subsequently closed down. Several important Swedish artists worked at Upsala-Ekeby including Mari Simmulson, Anna-Lisa Thomson, Ingrid Atterberg, and Vicke Lindstrand. Mari Simmulson was educated at the Art School, Tallin, Estonia; Arabia, Finland; and at the Academy of Visual Art in Germany. She was employed at Gustavsberg, where she worked together with Wilhelm Kage. From 1942-72 she was the leading artist at Upsala-Ekeby.
