This is an imposing decorative dish or wall platter from the iconic Spectra Series, designed by one of Sweden’s foremost ceramic talents, Anna-Lisa Thomson.6 As a lead designer for Upsala-Ekeby from 1933 until her death in 1952, her work defined Swedish Modernism.
This particular piece, model 1065, is noted for its exceptional scale, measuring 38 cm in diameter. The design is a painterly exploration of the natural world, reflecting Thomson’s characteristic fascination with shells, flowers, and sea plants.
The thick, vibrant glaze and relief decoration of underwater motifs exemplify the post-war shift towards organic, abstract forms in Scandinavian design.
