A rare HF Ildfast Bronze Denmark centerpiece bowl, dating to the late 1920s. This is a premier example of the decadent Orientalist themes that permeated the Art Deco movement.
The focal point of this substantial 11-inch bowl is a striking central figurine of a nude woman smoking an opium pipe. Seated thoughtfully on her knee, the figure captures the mysterious and daring allure of the "Forbidden" themes celebrated during the Jazz Age. The pipe detail is delicate and deliberate, making this a highly specialized collector's item.
Cast in the factory’s signature Ægte Ildfast Bronce, the centerpiece exhibits a deep, authentic patina that highlights the sophisticated sculptural planes of the nude. HF (H. Frederiksen) metalware from this period is increasingly difficult to source, especially with such specific, daring figural subject matter.
