A rare and early example of Danish Art Nouveau (or Jugendstil) pottery—a striking vase designed by Daniel Folkmann Andersen (1885-1959) for his family's firm, Michael Andersen & Son, Bornholm, circa 1910.
Daniel Andersen, who later invented the renowned Persia glaze, left his artistic mark on the factory from a young age. This early vase is executed in rich Majolica pottery featuring a beautiful 'camouflage' effect created by blending deep green, orange/brown, and blue lead glazes over a stylized plant design. The complex glaze work and organic motifs are hallmarks of the period's naturalistic style.
Signed pieces from this period of Michael Andersen's production are highly collectible and represent a key transitional moment in Danish ceramics.
