Designed by Holger Christensen (1890–1965) for the prestigious Just Andersen atelier, this piece was produced between 1941 and 1943—a time when the scarcity of metals during the WWII occupation led to a creative pivot toward cast stone.
The Artist: Holger Christensen was a master of the Neoclassical form, having also produced celebrated works for Royal Copenhagen. His "Twins" sculpture is prized for its serene, protective composition and the tactile, matte finish unique to Just Andersen’s wartime sandstone.

"In 1940, the furnaces at Just Andersen grew cold as metals were rationed for the war effort. But rather than silence the studio, Andersen and his lead sculptor, Holger Christensen, turned to the earth itself.
Using a specialized sandstone composition, they created a series of works that defined the 1940s Danish aesthetic. These pieces were softer, lighter in color, and more emotionally resonant than the dark Disko metal of the 1930s. Today, these sandstone sculptures are highly sought after by collectors not just for their beauty, but for their status as symbols of Danish artistic perseverance during the occupation."
