A mid-century Scandinavian masterwork: an original, asymmetrical "Thule" series art glass centerpiece bowl, designed by the legendary Per Lütken for Holmegaard.
First introduced in 1957, the Thule series is celebrated for its heavy, organic presence, thick solid base, and dramatic, sweeping sloped rim illustrating its , sculptural silhouette. This specific piece is a rare, beautifully preserved early production from 1961—not a later unsigned reissue. It features a luminous, fluid light aqua blue ("Akva") colorway that captures and refracts light exquisitely, showcasing the thick-walled craftsmanship that Lütken made famous.
The underside features a crisp, hand-incised archival signature: "Holmegaard 19 PL 61", showcasing Per Lütken's personal monogram and the exact production year. The main listing photo, IMG_7928-3.jpg, and generous proportions.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The glass is beautifully clear with no chips, cracks, flea bites, or cloudiness. Retains a portion of its original Holmegaard factory paper label on the side. Light, age-appropriate shelf wear to the base as expected for an authentic mid-century piece.

About the Designer & Manufacturer
Per Lütken (1916–1998) was the undisputed champion of Danish glass design, serving as the head of design at Holmegaard from 1942 until his passing. He breathed life into the medium with his philosophy that glass should have its own organic movement, creating some of the most iconic, fluid shapes of the mid-century modern era.
Holmegaard, established in 1825, is Denmark's most prestigious historical glassworks, renowned worldwide for balancing traditional artisan glassblowing techniques with cutting-edge Scandinavian modernism.
