Technique & Aesthetic Drawing deep inspiration from his time studying traditional ceramics in Japan, Weiss has treated the stoneware surface like a canvas. The vase features a complex "painterly" glaze where iron and manganese oxides react in the kiln to create a rich, variegated surface with subtle metallic flecks and deep, earthen shadows.
