Carl Halier – Rare Unique Studio Stoneware Bowl (Dated 1928)
An absolutely unique and historically important stoneware bowl by Danish master ceramicist Carl Halier (1873–1948), created in his personal Copenhagen studio in 1928.
Carl Halier is recognized as one of the most important figures in early 20th-century Danish pottery, working alongside and later succeeding Patrick Nordström at Royal Copenhagen. This bowl, however, represents the exceptional quality of his independent studio work.
The piece features a sophisticated green and ochre matte glaze that flows beautifully over a subtle impressed geometric pattern. Halier’s mastery is evident in the balance of the simple, wide form (9 1/4" square) and the refined, earthy glaze finish, capturing the essence of early Danish Modernism. The clear painted mark, including the date, provides impeccable provenance.
