A magnificent pair of antique Art Nouveau lidded pewter bowls from Copenhagen, Denmark, embodying the elegant Danish Skønvirke (Aesthetic/Beautiful Work) style.
These bowls were created from a design by the highly respected Danish silversmith and artist Mogens Ballin (1871-1914). After Ballin sold his workshop in 1908, the designs were manufactured in pewter by silversmith H.P. Hertz, ensuring the high quality and distinct style continued. Ballin's work was deeply influential, even employing a young Georg Jensen early in his career.
The organic, flowing design is typical of the Art Nouveau period, offering a stunning decorative piece for display. The pewter has developed a beautiful, deep patina over the last century.
The bowls are authentically signed on the bottom with the clear "HB" monogram for Hertz/Ballin, confirming that they were produced during the post-1908 period when Hertz maintained the production of the classic Mogens Ballin models.
