A beautiful and authentic piece of Danish Art Nouveau, this terracotta fruit bowl was designed by the sculptor and painter Karen Hagen (b. 1880) for the esteemed P. Ipsen's Enke Royal Court Terracotta Factory (Kgl. Hof Terracottafabrik).
Created around 1909-1919, the design perfectly captures the organic forms of the Art Nouveau (or Skønvirke in Danish) movement. The bowl features a striking bright orange matt glaze, which covers the natural terracotta body. The most exceptional detail is the intricately openwork border with a rhythmic pattern of molded and painted cherries and leaves.
This large bowl is a fantastic example of the high-quality, art-driven terracotta that made Ipsen's Enke a major name in European ceramics, with their pieces now held in museums worldwide. A truly sculptural centerpiece for any Art Nouveau or collector's display.
