Art deco sgrafitto vase designed by Josef Ekberg (1877-1945) in 1921 for Gustavsberg. Powder blue sponge-glaze with decoration in blue glaze. Ekberg worked as a leading designer for Gustavsberg from 1889 until his death.
Fully signed: Gustavsberg 334 JE 1921.
Excellent condition.

Ekberg started working at Gustavsberg Porcelain Factory aT the age of 12. He helped the painters and became himself a painter/decorator. He helped developing the special sgrafitto technique, which was a great success for Gustavsberg. Subsequently Josef Ekberg developed a new lustre glaze. Also the lustre glaze became a major international success for the factory. Ekberg was artistic director from 1908-17. He was followed by another iconic person - namely William Kåge.
