Historical Context

Founded in 1859 by Lauritz Hjorth, L. Hjorth Keramik is one of Denmark's most prestigious potteries. While they are famous for their "brown" terracotta pieces from the 1800s, their 20th-century glazed stoneware—like these pharmacy jars—became icons of Scandinavian functionalism. These were often sold in Danish pharmacies (Apotek) for salves and powders but are now highly prized for vanity or kitchen styling.
