Palshus Stentøj: The Mid-Century Master Studio
This magnificent, large lamp base is a high-quality example of the studio ceramics produced by Palshus Stentøj during its brief but influential run (1949–1972). It was designed by co-founder Per Linnemann-Schmidt (1912–1999), who opened the studio with his wife, Annelise. Linnemann-Schmidt, trained originally as a sculptor at the Royal Academy of Art, brought a sculptural and textural sensibility to his pottery.
Design and Materiality
The lamp base’s immense size (20.5 inches ceramic height) ensures its status as a statement piece. It is constructed from heavy chamotte stoneware, providing a tactile, earthy finish beneath a rich, olive-green flowing glaze. The subtle, impressed decorative pattern adds depth without detracting from the modernist simplicity of the form. Palshus pieces are rare due to the studio's closure in 1972, making this large lamp a particularly desirable collector's item.
