Nils Kähler: The Artistic Director
This heavy stoneware planter is a significant piece from Nils Kähler (1906–1979), a fifth-generation potter and the artistic director of the iconic Kähler Keramik (Herman Kähler) studio, which he co-managed from 1940. Nils Kähler maintained a distinct personal studio within the factory, where he focused on experimental glazes and modern forms.
Glaze Innovation
The vase’s robust form, typical of Mid-Century Scandinavian design, is finished with a stunning Uranium Glaze. These specialized glazes, often used in the mid-20th century to achieve rich yellows, oranges, and mottled browns, are highly prized by collectors today. The size and quality of the stoneware, weighing in at 2.1 kilos, emphasize its prominence as a collectible object from the Kähler studio's most influential period.
