Large Michael Andersen Fluted Bowl.

Michael Andersen centerpiece bowl, a masterful example of Danish Art Deco stoneware from the 1930s. This monumental 31 cm (12 inch) bowl is distinguished by its complex glaze decor: a rich, moss green speckled base that covers the body, dramatically punctuated by alternating moss green and deep red glazes within the deep vertical fluting. This "color-play" within the relief creates a vibrant, rhythmic contrast that highlights the bowl’s sculptural form.

Historical Significance

Under the artistic direction of Daniel Andersen, the MAS workshop became world-renowned for experimenting with multi-tonal glazes. This specific fluted bowl utilizes the "Old Raised Mark," signifying it was produced during the workshop's most innovative era. The transition from the speckled field into the colored flutes demonstrates the high level of hand-finishing present in early 20th-century Bornholm ceramics.
