A masterpiece of German Mid-Century design, this large ceramic sculpture was designed in the 1950s by the esteemed artist Lore Friedrich-Gronau (1905–2002) for the Staatliche Majolika-Manufaktur Karlsruhe.
Friedrich-Gronau is world-renowned for her graceful dancing figures at Rosenthal, but this piece for Karlsruhe showcases her command over heavy, expressive stoneware. Depicting a kneeling female figure with a flower, the sculpture is partially finished in the artist's signature muted glazes, leaving portions of the dark clay exposed—a classic 1950s "Majolika" technique.
At 29 cm tall and weighing over 1.2 kg, this is a commanding and elegant work of art that captures the fluid movement and "quiet strength" characteristic of Friedrich-Gronau's portfolio.
