Marianne Starck: Artistic Director of Bornholm Pottery

This striking  wall hanging is a key piece from the "Negro Line" (or Tribal Line), designed by Marianne Starck for the esteemed pottery studio Michael Andersen & Son, Bornholm, Denmark.

 

Starck's tenure at the company began in 1955 after her education at the School of Fine Arts in Hamburg. She rapidly became a prominent figure and eventually held full artistic and technical responsibility from 1975, shaping the firm's direction for decades. Her work is celebrated for its versatility, imaginative glazes, and incorporation of contemporary, global-inspired motifs, perfectly exemplified by the textured, abstract pattern of this wall plaque.

 

Design and ProvenanceThe piece is crafted with the typical rich, deep glazes and textured surfaces characteristic of the Negro Line. It is authentically marked on the reverse with the MAS (Michael Andersen & Son) hallmark and the model number 5591-2. A highly desirable collector's piece of Mid-Century Scandinavian Art Pottery.Condition: Presented in excellent vintage condition.
