Maria Philippi's Stylized Relief Design

This superb stoneware vase was designed by German ceramicist Maria Philippi (1927–2004) during her influential tenure at Søholm Stentøj in the early 1960s. Although her time at the Bornholm factory was brief (1962–1964), her designs, including the popular Nordlys and this Bamboo series, remained in production for years.

Design and Glazing

The vase features a tall, elegant form decorated with a stylized bamboo relief pattern. The rich, partially glossy blue glaze beautifully contrasts with the textured stoneware, deepening in the recesses of the pattern and breaking over the raised edges, creating a dynamic surface typical of high-quality Scandinavian Stentøj (stoneware).

Provenance

This piece is authentically marked on the base with the Søholm stamp, the model code MP 3180/3 (indicating Maria Philippi's design), the Handmade stamp, and retains its desirable original factory label.
