The Architecture of Light: Vicke Lindstrand’s "Grass" Slab Vase
This elegant crystal vase is a quintessential example of Vicke Lindstrand’s (1904–1983) mid-century work for Kosta. Eschewing traditional rounded forms, Lindstrand utilizes a flattened "Slab" profile, creating two broad, clear faces that act as a canvas for his artistry.
Design & Motif: The vase features a soft, biomorphic silhouette with a wide, polished rim. The hand-etched "grass" (or strå) decoration is delicately incised into the surface, with the lines appearing to sway across the width of the glass. The flat-sided geometry allows light to pass through the crystal with minimal distortion, beautifully highlighting the rhythmic, airy etching.
