The sculpture was made by sculptor Kai Nielsen (1882-1924). Kai Nielsen was originally trained as a painter, but soon abandoned the canvas to become a sculptor. He was almost from the beginning a recognized artist, and is currently regarded as the most prominent Danish sculptor in recent times. He was dedicated to the organic shapes. He worked quickly and skillfully, and he believed that a sculpture had to be viewed from all angles and sides, there were no front and back, which this sculpture represents.
In 1922 Kai Nielsen worked for some months at the Kähler factory in order to develope and produce terracotta figurines in a smaller scale which would fit into private homes. Kahler produced approx 20 models.
Signed: HAK Danmark. Excellent vintage condition, the glaze has some crazing as often seen on these kahler pieces, Please see pictures. Height: 12 inches (31 cm).
